My Story as it happened on 03/24/09

I arrived at American Shooting Centers in Houston with my fiancé to show her how to shoot my Beretta pistol. Now I'm not a regular at this place but I do come about once a month. Every time I have come to amshootcenters it has been a generally great experience....until lately. The last time I came, the range officer picked up my weapon during a cease fire to make sure it was unloaded then dropped it on the table! The Safety lever broke off and they denied responsibility and didn't even apologize. I had to send my gun to France to have the safety replaced (Beretta). I don't know what I was thinking but I should have sued them for the repair bills.

On this particular day though, with my fiancé, I wasn't going to do any shooting what so ever. It was just to let her shoot and become familiar with my gun. This young, very easy to aggravate range officer came up to us and asked for our receipt. I produced it and he told me that I have to go pay for another person or one of us, me or my girl, has to go wait in the car until the other is done. I asked him when did the policy change and if it still applies for just one shooter, one gun, one target. (At the register cashier Josh Conn asked me the old way, " How many guns, how many targets?") He got more and more infuriated with me and told me that I had to do it. Now since I never seen this kid before I looked around and saw this older range officer that I've seen there on several occasions and has always been nice to me.

I asked him what the story was with the shooting policy at American shooting centers. He told me, "Yeah, it's one gun one target." As soon as he said that, that young, easy to bruise ego, kid came running over and said, "Did you just ask him about what I told you no to? Get out of here! Go get a refund and leave!" He radioed in that a refund was coming. Unbelievable! All this in front of my girl too.

In the main office I asked this big guy what the deal was and that they shouldn't have such a guy with that bad of a temper on the range. They defended him. That kid on the range told me the policy changed four years ago. When I asked the big guy behind the counter he said it just changed less than a year ago. Funny how the answers differ. I knew that kid was lying.

They said that they would give me a free shooting range the next time I come. I asked for it in writing but the old gray haired manager/owner told me that he doesn't give out rain checks? So, why offer and what would happen if I did come back? I would have no proof of a free range fee. I told him this point and he just shrugged his shoulders. I asked if I could just go back out there with my fiancé and the gray haired guy told me, "Not today, he's too hot out there and we don't want anything to happen." They said he's too hot...which tells me they know that he has an anger issue. Even so, I wouldn't want to be on a range with all these guys, whom have such a hot head; that can get mad and try to kill someone or me. I bet anyone that this young kid will lead to the death of someone or even himself. And the office staff where very uncooperative in this whole matter. I'm never going back to American Shooting Centers again.
