Palm Gardens is a TOTAL DISASTER. If you care about your family, do not send them here, trust me.

Palm Gardens is a total disaster. If i had known, I would have never put my mother here. The staff is uncooperative and they show little interest in the patients. If the patient does not have family to go up there and be on top of the workers, they neglect them. Half of the patients are unaware of whats really going on. Palm Gardens is FILTHY. Very little maintenance here. The air conditioner filters are filled with black dust. The only microwave that youre allowed to use is in the basement (which is extremely filthy) The ceiling is falling apart. The list goes on. Dont go on the elevators because a lot of people have gotten stuck. They leave the patients food in the hallway so when they get it, its cold. They never have the most essential things a nursing home should have. You can never find an extra pillowcase, they dont have gloves, theylose your voicebox , they dont have remotes for the TVs (they expect the patients to get out of bed and hit the buttons on the TV).

I recommend Palm Garden Nursing Home, because it very clean quiet and relaxing ,also it has a open outdoor for residents which allow the residents to be outdoor and communicate with each other and also convenient for families and friends. The nurses are very committed to their residents and guest.

While visiting my cousin I found some of the staff to be uncooperative and completely uncaring of the patient. I asked to speak to the social worker who said she would be up in 5 minutes and never showed up.

Visiting the nursing home, I found easy parking, esthetically 4 star, good quality wood night stand, great closet space, well staffed, food delivered on time and you have an option with dietitian to have sandwiches for lunch, portions are generous. Physical therapy and wound dressings were done proficiently. Weekends physical therapy is negligent. When bells ring at night they are very disturbing because of the noise level eluded & there isn't a system with a light over the door. Doctors are present mornings only, not on weekends, you have to call your own doctor's answering service & wait for a 24 hour turn-around, God forbid you need pain meds and a script is not in place, no pharmacy, up to 2-day wait for meds; There is no pharmacy, tell your relatives to bring your own meds, tylenol, sleeping pills, etc., especially if you have a snorer next to you who keeps you up at night. Staff is professional and pleasant = very important.

I don't know what this reviewer is talking about. My father-in-law was at this home for nearly 4 months and we couldn't have been more satisfied. Staff not enough? They were at times, in my opinion, overstaffed. Now this is not to say that we never had a problem or a complaint, but any issue brought up to them was addressed the same day or at worst the next day. We were in other facilities over the years and this was not the case. We never in our wildest dreams thought that he would make such a recovery after having experienced paralysis in his extremities and with their expertise he walked out on his own 2 feet.

My father-in-law's stay at Palm Gardens was a disaster. There is not enough staff to take care of the patients. He would press the call button and would either have to wait an average of an hour or more, or no one would come at all. Once he needed to be taken to the bathroom at about 3:30 AM and after pressing the call button and waiting for more than two hours, he got out of bed by himself and fell to the floor hitting his head; we got a phone call at 7:30 AM notifying us that he was injured. Also, his condition inculded parkinsons disease with lung aspiration and periodic pneumonia; at a time when he was being treated for pneumonia and severe congestion, one of the "nurses" opened the window in his room in 40 degree weather and left it open until we came at 4:00 PM making him much worse. Because of that incident, he had to be immediately transferred to NYU for emergency treatment. We made a complaint to the New York State agency responsible for nursing homes, but heard nothing.
