New Jersey Citizen Action is an independent citizen watchdog coalition, representing over 60,000 family members and over 100 affiliated organizations across the state. Based in Newark, N.J., it works to protect and expand the rights of individuals and families and to ensure that government officials respond to the needs of people. The group organizes campaigns that promote economic, social and political justice and encourages the active involvement of citizens from New Jersey. Some of the issues covered in its campaigns pertain to financial reform, auto insurance rates, transparency in elections, community reinvestment, education, lead poisoning prevention, taxes, social security, marriage equality and many more. The organization s allies comprise institutions like USAction, Public Campaign, National Institute on Money in State Politics, New Jersey Developmental Disabilities Council, The Progressive Action Network and Midwest Academy to name some.
