Dr. Charles Kirkham and his wife Julie are both natives of Corpus Christi -so returning to the community to establish a medical practice with CCWC in 1988 was only natural. Dr. Kirkham attended A & M University, the second generation in his family to do so, and remains an active alumnus. After attending medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. Kirkham completed his residency and served 4 years of active duty as a medical officer with the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of major. He served as Chief of Staff for Corpus Christi Medical Center Doctors Regional Hospital in 1994, and as Chief of Ob/Gyn 1993, 1998 and 1999. A fascination with science in high school led to a Bausch & Lomb Science Award for outstanding achievement and eventually the desire to become a doctor. Dr. Kirkham felt the combination of science and care of fellow man would be an excellent way to pursue his interest. He began that pursuit early on by spending summers serving as a nurse's aide at Memorial Hospital's burn center, and by seizing the opportunity to observe surgery on occasion. Dr. Kirkham describes his Ob/Gyn practice as exciting and challenging - combining primary care and surgery. He says, "It's nice to be able to follow patients through the years, to grow and develop relationships over time. My goal is to provide compassionate, quality care in a personal manner." Dr. Kirkham and his wife have two sons and a daughter and are active in the community and their church. He and his family are ardent baseball fans. An outdoor enthusiast and fitness buff, Dr. Kirkham is an avid surfer and runner - counting among his accomplishments the completion of the Houston Tenneco Marathon in 1991. As an ordained deacon and youth department Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church, Dr. Kirkham's stewardship is evident in his philosophy: "to try and be the best that you can; and keep searching for excellence in yourself and those around you."
