Animal Care Center opened its doors on June 1st, 1983. The practice was built as a two-doctor practice by Dr. Larry Knight and Dr. William Wheat. The original facility was built with the idea of comprehensive veterinary medical and surgical care. The practice was initially comprised of approximately 60% small animal and 40% large animal. Dr. Darryl Bubrig joined the staff in 1988 and in 1990 he became half owner when he purchased Dr. Knights portion of the practice. Since that time we have prospered and grown into the largest non-referral veterinarian clinic on the Northshore. Our hospital now has 9 Veterinarians with over 100 years of experience and additional support staff of 30+ part and full-time employees.

Don't take your small Avian pet/ bird here! On their website they do not advertise that they are NOT a full-fledged Avian clinic. Want to get your small Avian pet a full exam/ physical? Don't use Dr. Bubrig. If you go here your pet will not be weighed, mouth looked into, nor will their body be felt for malnutrition issues. No, your small Avian pet will not have a stethoscope put up to their chest so their heart can be listened to. It's just like a restaurant advertising that they have a salad bar and when you show up the salad bar has one head of lettuce and 4 carrots. GO TO A REAL FULL-FLEDGED FACILITY IF YOU WANT A REAL PROFESSIONAL AVIAN SPECIALIST AND A FULL EXAM PERFORMED ON YOUR PET. Dr. Bubrig or his staff will not tell you when you make an appointment that they only do VERY abbreviated Avian exams. They tell you this information during your appointment which is AFTER you arrive at their facility. During your appointment they will tell you that they offer their abbreviated Avian exams so people don't have to drive all the way to Baton Rouge. "Let's see, I will make a short trip to Hammond to get my spark plugs changed when I really need to travel all the way to Baton Rouge to get my much needed engine overhaul"......makes a lot of sense eh?

I have recently become a new client to this facility. I have only used there mobile vet service. Dr. Amy Sutherland is the best! She was very prompt to call me back and is very knowledgeable about her pets. I have a 13 yr old lab that needed something's taken care right away and she helped fit me in and transport my lab to their facility. Now I'm just waiting for my pet to be delivered back home. Love these guys!

Great!

I love taking my chihuahua here! Everyone is very friendly to me and my pet. I've moved an hour away but will still come here because they're so great!

Acc will be our vet office from now on. We had an emergency with our maltese last night and my vet referred us somewhere 45 minutes away. Animal Care Center was my next call... They called back right away, took us in as new patients and met us at their office within 20 minutes on a Sunday. Our baby is still in the hospital but I feel confident they are doing everything they can.

Wonderful place of business. You can tell the doctors and staff love the animals. Great groomer also. Veterinarians are just like our doctors except the pets cannot talk. If people want to find out whats wrong then it takes a little more test to find out whats wrong; therefore, it can be more expensive. I would rather pay a bill and help my dog then just watch my dog suffer. I have learned every other animal hospital cost the same. Love this place though. They explain everything they are doing to my dog throughout the visit and take the time to help me prevent more episodes. The doctors are on call till later in the evening for any ER occurrences. The business is a great and pretty atmosphere.

Recently had an emergency that was close to 10:00pm. I was already a client and new that Animal Care didn't take emergencies after 10:00pm. I was pleasantly surprised when I received the prompt call back and was told to meet the Doctor at the clinic with my lab. She did an excellent job. I have now seen three of the doctors that work here and all have been very knowledgeable and spend quality time with me and my labs. Thanks.
