Provided by YP.comThis place is so-so diner-type food. Could use a decor update, but I like their French dip sandwich with au jus. And of course, a slice of pie for dessert!

Provided by YP.comThis place has really good food. This is a good family type restaurant. The pies all look delicious. It can be hard to find a parking spot.

Provided by YPmobileGreat for late night food cravings! Tons of pie, most of it really tasty. The other food is akin to Denny's or IHOP. Parking is a challenge.

Provided by YP.comSince our charming Angelz coffee shop closed (replaced by some truly icky "gourmet" food outfit) I haven't been able to find a replacement that combines good food and reasonable prices. I've tried to "bond" with HOP but it's been a fail more often than not. I will list the problems in order of greatest annoyance: 1. the atmosphere. I hate the counter. It's like having breakfast in a high chair for a baby. One need not be seated on a precipice, thank you. 2. the waiters and waitresses are mostly nice, but often harried and they radar their work drama too much to the customer. It's like watching a reality show set in a coffee shop sometimes. That is not friendly pleasantry or banter, it's torture. 3.the food is a real crap shoot. Breakfast is fairly lousy here; take the extra mile and go the Astro for a good breakfast. Frozen hash browns? YUKK! The omelettes are okay but pricy. Their version of anything Mexican is really bad, don't bother. They do have a really good fresh roasted turkey sandwhich, and a good burger, but the fires are generic and ho-hum. And the tab fails to please; too high for such mediocrity! 4. They seem to get a lot of return business from neighborhood folks, elders, and...unfortunately... families with shrieking children. I left with a half headache one morning; it was like eating in a day care for pre-schoolers. Which brings us around to what they are really selling: pie. order it, pick it up, take it home. They have a convenient location in their favor, but this is one House that is rarely in order. There is also a most unpleasant Asian woman of sour demeanour who seems to be the manager; warning: she can't handle criticism. I don't plan to spend much time in this House. There are 2 better options within a couple miles east or west (Astro and The Dunes on Sunset) with better food.

Provided by YP.comMeh. Definitely not delicious crunchy health food pie. Didn't impress me for decadent sugary deliciousness, either.

Provided by YP.comThey have the best fresh strawberry pie EVER! It starts with a delicate pie crust with a layer of creamy vanilla custard then piled on top with fresh sweet red strawberries. it is completed with a beautiful glaze that has a nice smooth consistency - not stiff and weirdly jello-like. better than any pie anywhere.

Provided by YP.comI know it's a classic in Los Feliz, I know it's popular and everyone goes at least once. But after going once, I don't really understand what the hype is. Other than the fact it's called "house of pies" and it has an old school cafeteria feel to it, it doesn't stick out to me. The old cafeteria feel is not a plus. Now, I haven't tried every single thing on the menu, but i have tried a pie. The pie was too expensive for its slightly-above-grocery-store-quality taste. The service was good and everything was alright but why is it when restaurants are always full, they seem to care not to put any of that money back into rejuvination. I can spend just as much somewhere else to get a pie that is spectacular, made fresh, and in a bright and happy space.
