Pacific Community Police Station, located in Los Angeles, is a branch of the Los Angeles Police Department that was established in 1869 and oversees an area of more than 450 square-miles. LAPD handles more than 3.7 million telephone calls every year. It handles a range of issues, such as crime, helping victims of domestic violence, rehabilitating addicts and ensuring the overall security of the city s citizens. LAPD is headed by a board of police commissioners who function like a corporate board of directors, setting policies for the department and overseeing its operations. The board works in conjunction with the chief of police, who acts as a chief executive officer and reports to the board. There are five civilian members who make up the board of police commissioners.
