I couldn't recommend this practice to my worst enemy! I have prisms in my glasses so had to see someone who was expert in this. When I called for an appointment, I was advised to see Dr. Williams. I had to return to see her twice before she was able to complete the exam and of course, I had to pay for each visit. When I received the glasses, the prisms were OK but I could read no better with them than my former ones. I called the office again but wasn't able to see Dr. Williams but was given an appointment with Dr. Sims. It again took two visits to have her check my glasses and of course, two more co-payments to get a new prescription. The worst of it is that Dr. Sims radically changed the strength of the prisms, which was the only part of the prescription I got from Dr. Williams that seemed correct. The prism was reduced to a level I hadn't been able to wear in over thirty years. The optometrist that made my glasses tried calling Dr. Sims while I was there but didn't get a call back and I have tried calling her but haven't got a call back either. After four visits and spending $178 in co-payments plus over $500 for glasses, I still don't have a pair of glasses I can read with without using a magnifier! My previous ophthalmologist was not on my health plan but it would have been less expensive, less time consuming, and much less frustrating if I had just gone back to him instead of trying to use my vision plan. Under that plan, I should have been able to have a free vision exam but ended up being scheduled with someone at Newson that was not covered for this service so had to use my medical insurance thus incurring both a co-payment plus additional charges for the cost of refraction not covered by my medical plan. I feel like my insurance company and I have been taken to the cleaners by this practice since both Dr. Williams and Dr. Sims each required two visits for an eye exam. Now because of the problem with the prescription I received from Dr. Sims yesterday, I wouldn't doubt that I will be asked to make another appointment and pay another co-payment in order to straighten this out. There is an old saying, once burned, twice shy. Unfortunately, I have been burned four times by this practice and don't intend to spend any more time or money at this practice. I am now retired an no longer have vision insurance nor can I afford to spend any more money on trying to get glasses that work so may be stuck. About all I can do now is let everyone I know or run into about the problems I have had. Most people only let two or three people know about a good experience and somewhere between 5 and 10 when they don’t. My goal is to spread the word about my bad experience with Newson Eye, South Tampa, to as many people as possible even if I am reduced to just having to tell my friend, all those standing near me in a grocery line, etc.
