I called this shop to see about having a headlight and brake inspection done. I ignored the fact that the owner answers the phone with a barely audible, "Hello" instead of identifying his business. I thought I had called someone's home. Be that as it may, I stopped in to have my inspection done. The greeting from the owner when you walk in is as though he'd rather be doing something else. When he rose from his chair to take a look at my car, he noticed that my left-front turn signal was missing. I honestly didn't know that the turn signal was required for a headlight inspection. The owner looked disgusted, shook his head dismissively and asked why I was wasting his time...just like that! I asked why he needed to be so rude and he said that he wasn't rude and that I should have known better. At that point I was looking for hidden cameras from a show like Punk'd! The idea that I would have wasted my OWN time if I had known the signal light would be an issue was ludicrous! I then informed the owner that he had behaved like an absolute jackass who didn't deserve the money of his customers. Now, someone who was raised by humans might have simply said, "Sir, I can't complete the inspection without the signal light." That would have been fine. I'd have gone home, opened the box with my new signal light that had just been delivered by UPS and returned the following day. As it was, I informed the owner of Mel's (admittedly, there was profanity involved on my part by then) that, even if he gave me his $100 inspection certificate for $20, there was no way he would see a dime of my money. Further, I informed him that I would do exactly what I'm doing now which is enlightening future potential customers about what he considers customer service. I'd rather go 50-miles out of my way to spend my money anywhere other than Melson's Auto Service!
